Subject: T-Mobile to finally turn off 2G in 2024

T-Mobile recently disclosed that it will turn off its 2G GSM network
on April 2, 2024. The move follows the operator's dismantling of its
3G networks, and Sprint's 3G and 4G networks, during 2022.
“Across the industry, wireless companies have retired older network
technologies as part of an important progression to ensure all
customers can enjoy a more advanced 4G and 5G network,” T-Mobile
explained on its website. “Moving customers who are on old networks
onto modern, advanced high-speed networks means they will need to have
phones and devices that can tap into the latest technologies.”

Subject: AT&T Gets Set to Cohabit in Frontier Central Offices
AT&T and Frontier have signed a deal that will enable AT&T to deploy
wireless infrastructure in Frontier central offices. The deal also
calls for AT&T to purchase fiber connectivity to connect with cell
towers that are in Frontier’s network.
Asked about the equipment that will go in the central offices, an AT&T
spokesperson said, “We’ll strategically begin to centralize the cell
site baseband units (controllers) where it makes sense to do so for
operational efficiencies.”

Maryland Telemarketing Bill Looks to Join Florida in Expansively
Prohibiting the Use of “Automated Systems for the Selection or Dialing
of Telephone Numbers.”
Steptoe telemarketing litigation partner new guy Dan Blynn here with a
recent state telemarketing law development out of Maryland - and it’s not
a good one. Specifically, in mid-January 2023, Maryland Senate Bill 90,
entitled the “Stop the Spam Calls Act of 2023,” was introduced. A
hearing was held on the bill in the state Senate Finance Committee just
last week, on February 1, 2023. While laudable in its aim, like
Florida’s and other states’ recent telemarketing law amendments before
it, the bill only serves to inject ambiguity and raise questions
regarding what is prohibited. If passed, the Stop the Spam Calls Act of
2023 will help feather the nests (more) of the plaintiffs’ class action
bar without offering meaningful relief to Maryland residents.
