AT&T service restored Tuesday night before polls close ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - UPDATE: AT&T technicians completed repairs around 6:45 p.m. and restored service after a work crew damaged a fiber cable earlier Tuesday in the Wynnewood area. AT&T officials said they apologize to their customers for any inconvenience this may have caused. ORIGINAL: AT&T is experiencing outages across southern Oklahoma, and it may affect how quickly voters will see election results. https://www.kxii.com/content/news/Southern-Okla-ATT-outage-could-slow-election-night-results-499872791.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181108002047.GA17834@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2018 19:20:47 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: FCC Pretends To Hold Carrier Feet To The Fire On Robocalls from the annoy-me-during-dinner dept Despite numerous government initiatives and countless promises from the telecom sector, our national robocall hell continues. Robocalls from telemarketers and scammers continue to be the subject the FCC receives the most complaints about, and recent data from the Robocall Index indicates that the problem is only getting worse. Consumers are routinely hammered by mortgage interest rate scams, credit card scams, student loan scams, business loan scams, and IRS scams. In September, group data showed that roughly 4.4 billion robocalls were placed to consumers at a rate of 147 million per day. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20181106/08194240988/fcc-pretends-to-hold-carrier-feet-to-fire-robocalls.shtml -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <25c8281d-5207-4a35-8fc5-60f9e93b5fc5@googlegroups.com> Date: 6 Nov 2018 12:10:32 -0800 From: HAncock4 <withheld@invalid.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Re: INVESTIGATION: Phone company accused of neglecting rural customers On Monday, November 5, 2018 at 6:01:39 PM UTC-5, Bill Horne wrote: > By Jackie DeFusco > > SCOTT COUNTY, Va. That means companies will operate like any business and serve only profitable customers, and not serve unprofitable ones. So, this is what we got. The local newspaper has reported (and I posted here) similar incidents in outlying Verizon territory. They don't care about rural subscribers. The same is happening with electric power deregulation. Sure, we have a trifling amount taken off of our electric bills. But the electric companies have cut back mainline and local grid maintenance, so power failures are more frequent and recovery takes longer. Further, the national grid is used to sell power for profit, which was not what it was built to do, adding a further load and outage risk to it. ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 08 Nov 2018
