MORE THAN 35,000 union members at Verizon ratified a four-year extension of our current contract, won after a seven-week strike in 2016 that brought Verizon to its knees with our mass pickets, "scab wake-up calls," and wide public support. That contract included a number of advances for the union, reversing the trend of offshoring call center jobs and settling the first contracts in the new Wireless retail divisions. https://socialistworker.org/2018/08/14/when-a-good-contract-is-a-missed-opportunity -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180814122930.GA19368@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2018 08:29:30 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Fiber line repaired; RDM flights return to normal Overnight fix ended flight cancellations, delays A fiber optic cable outage in the Redmond area knocked out Internet and phone lines at Redmond Municipal Airport on Wednesday, canceling two airlines' departing flights for the rest of the day and creating long delays for at least some arrivals, officials said. The line was repaired and service restored early Thursday. A CenturyLink fiber line was cut in the Redmond area by a contractor not working for the utility, affecting about 130 customers, said Kerry Zimmer, CenturyLink's West Region marketing and public relations manager. https://www.ktvz.com/news/fiber-optic-line-out-some-rdm-departures-canceled/779079814 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180814114807.GA19129@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2018 07:48:07 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Study Weighs Accuracy of Carrier Robocall Detection By Katie Grzechnik Neill A recent study weighed popular phone carriers against each other in how accurately each carrier detects robocalls and spoofed calls. In the robocall context, the study looked at how often the carrier identified a number that is "problematic" in order to determine accuracy. Of the major carriers, the study found that Verizon's "Enhanced Caller Name ID" led the pack by detecting problematic numbers 93.6% of the time, followed T-Mobile's "SCAM ID in Combination with Name ID" at 90.1% detection and AT&T Wireless's "Call Protect" with 86.9% detection. http://www.insidearm.com/news/00044234-study-weighs-accuracy-carrier-robocall-de/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 15 Aug 2018
