You may recall we experienced some damage during storms last month causing the top portion of a utility pole to break off and fall to the ground. This same pole feeds our transmitter building. The pole was replaced today, and apparently, the workers did not reconnect the line. We reported the problem and CenturyLink has indicated they would have someone out within 24 hours. Given their word, WHEE should return to the airwaves sometime tomorrow. https://www.martinsvilledaily.com/blogs/entry/2-centurylink-audio-line-is-out/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ***** Moderator's Note ***** A small radio station, but a big problem: Verizon and its predecessors have always taken extraordinary care to make sure that services provided to opinion-makers like radio stations receive extraordinarily reliable service. Why Centurylink would choose to pick a fight with a guy who buys electronic ink by the barrelful is beyond me. The Samsung equipment is the first such system to receive FCC approval and covers access units as well as indoor and outdoor routers that will power the fixed wireless access (FWA) service. https://www.techradar.com/news/verizon-and-samsung-get-5g-regulatory-boost -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180508162923.GA27406@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 8 May 2018 12:29:24 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Lobby representing AT&T, Verizon wants FCC to get rid of line-sharing rules Telecom petitioned the FCC to throw out rules that let smaller network operators buy access to bigger companies' networks at lower rates. By Abrar Al-Heeti A lobby group representing AT&T, Verizon and other telecommunications companies wants the government to stop imposing rules that allow smaller network operators to buy access at lower rates to the networks of companies currently in control. In 2005, the Federal Communications Commission killed off several line-sharing requirements. But incumbent telecommunications companies still have to make certain copper-based network elements available through wholesale at regulated prices, Ars Technica reports. https://www.cnet.com/news/lobby-representing-at-t-verizon-wants-fcc-to-get-rid-of-line-sharing-rules/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180508162528.GA27378@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 8 May 2018 12:25:28 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Phone problems prompt Washington County, MD Public Schools switch to Verizon by CJ Lovelace Intermittent telephone issues prompted Washington County Public Schools to seek a new service provider, a district spokeswoman said Monday. The school system is switching to Verizon after experiencing recurring phone outages in recent weeks through its current provider, Vonage. https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/news/local/phone-problems-prompt-washington-county-public-schools-switch-to-verizon/article_4f07389a-5204-11e8-ab15-cf69b534fd8c.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 09 May 2018
