The attackers have chosen PDF generating devices because PDF files can be weaponized to deliver active contents which can be harmful to users. Receiving a PDF attachment in an email sent by a printer is so commonplace that many users assume the document is completely safe. >From a social engineering perspective, this is exactly the response that the cybercriminals want. https://blog.barracuda.com/2017/12/21/threat-spotlight-clever-cybercriminals-spoof-scanners-by-the-millions/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <6F4F3798-EE17-4463-9509-7659AC5E8563@roscom.com> Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2017 15:31:00 -0500 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Landline Phones Disappearing in These 20 States By Krystal Steinmetz If you live in any of the U.S. states where AT&T is the primary phone carrier - prepare for a big change: Landline phone service might be going the way of the dinosaur. According to the Chicago Tribune, state legislatures in 20 of those 21 states have given AT&T the OK to end landline service in their states so the telecommunications company can focus and invest more in wireless or internet-based phone networks. California is now the only holdout among states where AT&T is the legacy phone carrier. https://www.moneytalksnews.com/landline-phone-disappearing-in-these-20-states/ ***** Moderator's Note ***** There used to be a thing called a "Union," which protected workers from having the technology they worked to install and repair used against them. As I wrote in a previous remark, they've been planning this for a long time. I've seen the improvements that you've made at Level 3 (LVLT) since taking over in April of 2013 and watched as the stock price more than doubled over the next two years. However, not everyone is watching as carefully as I am. I spoke on the phone with one pension fund managers just a couple of weeks ago. When I mentioned your management's assurances about the dividend, and my math projecting that it would not be cut, his response was "Oh, really?" He then conceded that he had not looked at the company in almost a year, let alone projected the combined business. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4133895-centurylink-shareholders-want-level-3-management-xmas -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20171227184603.GA27345@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2017 13:46:03 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: At&T Announces Thousands Of Layoffs, Firings Just In Time For Christmas By Carlos Ballesteros AT&T plans to lay off and fire more than a thousand workers starting early next year, according to local reports. Across the Midwest, an estimated 600 workers were notified they were being laid off by the company on December 16, a week before AT&T announced it was doling out $1,000 bonuses to 200,000 of its employees in celebration of the Republican Party's tax overhaul. http://www.newsweek.com/christmas-att-layoffs-midwest-bonuses-trump-758391 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 28 Dec 2017
