The outage, which lasted from Thursday to Saturday evening, was the result of fiber line being cut by someone not associated with CenturyLink. While the cut is believed to be an accident, the company is still working to determine what happened, said Pat Welsh, a CenturyLink market development manager. http://www.dailyjournal.net/2017/12/12/centurylink_outage/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <F21C4AF1-DFE1-4706-A713-862CABE77610@roscom.com> Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2017 09:40:31 -0500 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: AT&T and Union Reach Accord on Job Protection for Workers Stemming the tide of rising economic insecurity for service workers, a major union has won significant job protection and increased pay for about 20,000 AT&T wireless employees, as well as a commitment to bring work back from overseas. Under the deal, 20,000 wireless employees would get better pay and job protection. The union will push for the company's acquisition of Time Warner. The deal, struck Wednesday, comes as President Trump has made clear his desire to keep low- and middle-skilled jobs in this country. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/13/business/att-wireless-union.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20171212154158.GA11604@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2017 10:41:58 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: U.S. urges judge to reject AT&T/Time Warner court date proposal WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government on Tuesday urged a federal judge to reject the February court date sought by AT&T and Time Warner in a dispute over the firms' proposed merger, arguing the companies are rushing to meet an April 22 closing deadline for their $85.4 billion deal. The U.S. Justice Department last month sued to block AT&T's planned acquisition of Time Warner, saying the combination could raise prices for rivals and pay-TV subscribers while hampering the development of online video. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-time-warner-m-a-at-t/u-s-urges-judge-to-reject-att-time-warner-court-date-proposal-idUSKBN1E00A2 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <p0u127$lmc$1@panix2.panix.com> Date: 14 Dec 2017 09:15:35 -0500 From: kludge@panix.com (Scott Dorsey) Subject: Re: History -- Western Union's cellular service, 1984 HAncock4 <withheld@invalid.telecom-digest.org> wrote: >* Unfortunately, the old Western Union employee newsletters are >not available online (AFAIK).
