By Jon Brodkin AT&T is using an LTE-equipped drone to reconnect some Puerto Ricans who lost wireless service after Hurricane Maria. This obviously isn't a permanent fix for Puerto Rico, where 48 percent of cell sites are still out of service more than a month after the hurricane wrecked telecom infrastructure on the island. But the drone - AT&T calls it a Flying COW (Cell on Wings) - is providing wireless connectivity in an area of up to 40 square miles. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/11/att-drone-brings-lte-access-to-hurricane-damaged-puerto-rico/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20171107015146.GA25638@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 6 Nov 2017 20:51:46 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Comcast's internet service was out across the U.S. on Monday for several hours By Caroline Cakebread Comcast's Xfinity internet service was down in many parts of the US on Monday. The outage was brief and service has been restored. The culprit was a configuration issue from Level 3, a telecommunications and internet service provider owned by CenturyLink. In a statement to CNN Tech, CenturyLink said a "configuration error" disrupted service and technicians restored service in 90 minutes. CenturyLink (CTL) declined to provide further details. http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/06/technology/business/internet-outage-comcast-level-3/index.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Tue, 07 Nov 2017
