President Trump boasted Friday of his social media influence after his personal Twitter account was briefly deactivated by a departing company employee, raising serious questions about the security of tweets the president wields to set major policy agendas, connect with his voter base and lash out at his adversaries. The deactivation Thursday sparked deep and troubling questions about who has access to the president's personal account, @realDonaldTrump, and the power that access holds. The deactivation also came at a time when the social network is under scrutiny for the role it played in spreading Russian propaganda during the 2016 presidential election. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2017/11/02/trumps-twitter-account-was-temporarily-deactivated-due-to-human-error/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <dad6affd9e1db8ede443415959383d51.squirrel@email.fatcow.com> Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2017 22:52:47 -0500 From: "Neal McLain" <nmclain.remove-this@and-this-too.annsgarden.com> Subject: AT&T's fiber build-outs cut into Charter and Comcast's growth New Street: AT&T's fiber build-out cut into Charter and Comcast's growth -- but that won't last By Mike Dano, FierceCale, Nov 2, 2017 Wall Street analyst firm New Street Research issued a report tracking AT&T's fiber build-out efforts and how those moves have cut into the growth of Charter and Comcast. However, the firm predicted Charter, Comcast and the rest of the cable industry will eventually be able to rekindle their momentum in the market for high-speed broadband connections and will "outpace consensus expectations, and massively outpace the growth of telcos." "Cable continues to capture over 100% of industry net adds; however, their gains shave (sic) slipped from a peak of 118% in the trailing twelve months up to 1Q17 to 108% in 3Q17," the New Street analysts wrote in a research report issued yesterday. http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/new-street-at-t-s-fiber-buildout-cut-into-charter-and-comcast-s-growth-but-won-t-last -or- http://tinyurl.com/at-t-s-fiber Neal McLain ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20171103141518.GA27630@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 3 Nov 2017 10:15:18 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: CenturyLink Faces Securities-Fraud Suit Tied to Scam Claims Already a defendant in consumer litigation seeking billions of dollars, the telecom firm gets some more bad news. By Polly Mosendz and Scott Moritz CenturyLink Inc. - trying to seal a $34 billion deal to buy Level 3 Communications Inc., facing a $12 billion consumer fraud case, and fighting a lawsuit by the Minnesota attorney general - got some more bad news last week in the form of a securities-fraud class action. The telecom firm's troubles began this summer when an ex-employee sued for wrongful termination. Heidi Heiser, who worked as a customer service and sales agent, claimed she was fired after notifying Chief Executive Officer Glen Post of an alleged sales scheme that left customers on the hook for services they didn't want. Shares of CenturyLink fell almost 5 percent as news reports of the allegations spread (the company has denied any wrongdoing). First Heiser's accusations sparked the consumer fraud action. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-30/centurylink-faces-securities-fraud-suit-tied-to-scam-claims -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 04 Nov 2017
