Like most second-tier telcos, CenturyLink's failure to upgrade its network at any real scale has resulted in it losing DSL customers to cable providers, who are now starting to more broadly deliver gigabit speeds. That's especially true across the second and third tier cities and smaller towns and rural markets these telcos simply don't think are worth upgrading. As such, CenturyLink felt it was necessary to issue a press release this week proclaiming that the company would be deploying faster speeds to up to 3 million customers by the end of this year. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/CenturyLink-Promises-Broadband-Upgrades-to-3-Million-by-2018-140404 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20170929123101.GA6398@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2017 08:31:01 -0400 From: Telecom Digest Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove- this.telecom.csail.mit.edu> Subject: Re: FCC asks Apple: please turn on the FM radios in iPhones (Correction) ----- Forwarded message from danny burstein <dannyb@panix.com> ----- Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2017 12:53:30 -0400 From: danny burstein <dannyb@panix.com> To: Telecom Digest <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: FCC asks Apple: please turn on the FM radios in iPhones Moderator's Note: This post, which was sent yesterday, had an incorrect URL for the MS Word version of the FCC document. Face ID is Apple's new facial identity scanner. It replaces Touch ID, Apple's fingerprint identity scanner, on the next generation iPhones X. https://www.imore.com/face-id Face ID Security Guide https://images.apple.com/business/docs/FaceID_Security_Guide.pdf ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20170929134557.GA6779@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2017 09:45:57 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: CenturyLink eyes partnerships for rural broadband CenturyLink eyes partnerships for rural broadband and rolls out price-for-life By Greg Avery As CenturyLink rolls out new "price for life" services and invests in its network to improve internet speed to nearly 700,000 people in Colorado, it's also trying a new approach to bringing broadband to areas that lack it - public-private partnerships with local communities. The Monroe, Louisiana-based telecom has been negotiating partnerships with some Western slope communities and at least one on the northern Front Range to expand its fiber-optic network into areas it previously considered uneconomical to do so. https://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2017/09/27/centurylink-eyes-partnerships-for-rural-broadband.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 30 Sep 2017
