|Terror is not a new weapon. Throughout history it has been used by those who could not prevail, either by persuasion or example. But inevitably they fail, either because men are not afraid to die for a life worth living, or because the terrorists themselves came to realize that free men cannot be frightened by threats, and that aggression would meet its own response. - John F. Kennedy|

Anonymous Yik Yak App Isn't Telling Message-ID: <37699966-75F9-4168-9594-575B6DD4C491@roscom.com> Who Spewed That Abuse? Anonymous Yik Yak App Isn't Telling During a brief recess in an honors course at Eastern Michigan University last fall, a teaching assistant approached the class's three female professors. "I think you need to see this," she said, tapping the icon of a furry yak on her iPhone. The app opened, and the assistant began scrolling through the feed. While the professors had been lecturing about post-apocalyptic culture, some of the 230 or so freshmen in the auditorium had been having a separate conversation about them on a social media site called Yik Yak. There were dozens of posts, most demeaning, many using crude, sexually explicit language and imagery. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/09/technology/popular-yik-yak-app-confers-anonymity-and-delivers-abuse.html|

Subject: New Jersey residents want to know if Verizon can hear their protests now Message-ID: <firstname.lastname@example.org> SEA ISLE CITY - Residents upset at plans to locate a cell phone tower at the city's premier recreational facility made sure council members heard them loud and clear Tuesday morning as they voiced their objections to the deal with Verizon. "We're getting beat up everyday by waves," said Anthony Edwardi, a resident of the 7200 block of Central Avenue, mentioning microwaves and cell phone waves as what he believes to be unseen causes of cancers and autism. "We're being bombarded everyday. It's a silent killer." http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/breaking/sic-residents-want-to-know-if-verizon-can-hear-their/article_e8ba039a-c761-11e4-8f67-27f3a26b8577.html -or- http://goo.gl/OHTRNG -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) And now the only piece of advice that continues to help is anyone that's making anything new only breaks something else. - Dawes|

Subject: Verizon not completely deregulated, says Public Utility Commission Message-ID: <firstname.lastname@example.org> Letters to the Editor In response to Mr. Richard Boger's March 4 letter to the editor, we want to clarify the Public Utility Commission's (PUC) action making basic telephone service competitive in certain areas in Verizon's service territory does not equate to complete "deregulation" of Verizon's landline service in those areas. Our decision does not impact basic telephone service provided in most areas in Verizon's service territory, including the territory in which Mr. Boger lives. And, in the areas determined to be competitive, the Commission will continue to regulate numerous aspects of Verizon's wireline service and will maintain many existing consumer protections. http://www.pennlive.com/opinion/2015/03/verizon_not_completely_deregul.html -or- http://goo.gl/EqidzD -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) And you to whom adversity has dealt a final blow With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go Turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again - Stan Rogers|

Subject: Idaho agency declares emergency, gives CenturyLink $1.88 million broadband contract Message-ID: <firstname.lastname@example.org> The state keeps business with the current provider and irks Syringa - again. by Cynthia Sewell BOISE - Two days after Gov. Butch Otter approved the Legislature's $3.64 million short-term broadband bailout for state schools on Feb. 25, the Department of Administration crafted its own bailout by declaring an emergency. After a court on Feb. 11 declared the state's Idaho Education Network contract with CenturyLink and ENA Services illegal and void, schools across the state and some state agencies faced losing service. Lawmakers took action to help protect schools' networks, but did not address the Department of Administration's potential loss of broadband. http://www.idahostatesman.com/2015/03/06/3680270/dept-of-administration-declares.html -or- http://goo.gl/ybVq9G -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) These folk music consumers are Birkenstock-ed Baby Boomers They say, "You're way too young and you dress completely wrong" - Susan Werner|
