Subject: FCC sets start date for incentive auction Message-ID: <15abe13a-f744-4b54-8895-0597b9265dbc@googlegroups.com> By Ben Munson, Editor, CED, July 20, 2015 FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has been steadfast in his assurance that, despite delays, the 600-MHz broadcast incentive auctions will begin in the first quarter of 2016. Now it appears we have a more concrete, albeit tentative, start date for the proceedings. As Broadcast Law Blog points out, within the FCC's list of items currently being circulated among the Commission is an item setting March 29, 2016 as the official start date for auctions. Because it is still being circulated the measure could be subject to change or could be voted down. Last week the FCC tabled two items--both relating to incentive auction rules--that had previously been on the agenda for the July 16 open meeting. Subject: Eleven FCC Field Offices Culled in Reorganization Message-ID: <b7750cca-7f60-4c62-bd42-fc6827feacf0@googlegroups.com> By Laura Stefani, CommLawBlog, July 19, 2015 Moving to "refocus" and "update" field office operations, FCC preserves more offices than originally anticipated, but some field personnel will lose jobs. A few months ago, we reported on Chairman Wheeler's then-rumored plan to eliminate 16 of the Commission's 24 Field Offices. (The plan, as described by Wheeler himself in testimony on Capitol Hill, would have replaced the decommissioned offices with "Tiger Teams" that would fly around the country to respond to unlawful interference.) Reports of the plan triggered considerable controversy which in turn triggered some old-fashioned D.C. lobbying (by both regulatees and field office employees) which then prompted Congressional intervention. The result?
