That's a Good Thing, Right? Google Chrome Now Blocks Irksome Ads. That's a Good Thing, Right? The brower's latest update filters out pop-up ads and other annoyances. It also strengthens Google's grip on the web. As advertising has become more intrusive in recent years, hundreds of millions of web users have installed ad-blocking software to ward off full-page pop-ups, blaring video pitches that start automatically and large ads with unstoppable countdown clocks that obscure the content you actually want to see. On Thursday, Google did something about the problem: The company updated its browser, Google Chrome, so that it bans such ads by default on mobile devices and desktop computers. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/18/business/media/google-chrome-ad-block.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <p6apl3$gvb$1@dont-email.me> Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2018 20:50:10 -0600 From: Dave Garland <dave.garland@remove-this.wizinfo.com> Subject: Re: I'm dropping GoDaddy: what's your recommendation for an alternate Domain Redistrar? TIA. NameCheap I've had good luck with them, they cost less than GoDaddy, their website and control panel isn't the appalling mess that GoDaddy's was, they haven't tried to cram me with charges, and they have been active in "defend the 'net" arenas like supporting the EFF. ------------------------------ Message-ID: <db1a5ef0-ea80-ff4e-59ac-2d24a180b656@juno.com> Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2018 07:33:37 -0500 From: Steve Stone <n2ubp@remove-this.juno.com> Subject: Re: I'm dropping GoDaddy: what's your recommendation for an alternate Domain Redistrar? -------- Original Message -------- > From: Bill Horne > > I just tried to renew one of the domains I have registered on > GoDaddy, but their computer profit-packed me by instead renewing an > old "auction" service that I don't want, and the GoDaddy rep who > answered their phone - less than one hour later - refused to cancel > the charge. > > Please recommend an alternate Registrar.
