As Verizon Enterprise Solutions' Clare Ward recently noted, this plays to the advantage of cybercriminals, enabling them to reuse successful breach tactics time and time again on new, unsuspecting organizations. That's why the company chooses to share stories about different breaches its Threat Research Advisory Center team was called to investigate. https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2018/09/10/verizon-data-breach-digest/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + The Telecom Digest depends on generous supporters like John Lewandowski + +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180911014541.GA17546@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2018 21:45:41 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Verizon ready to serve our customers, the community as Hurricane Florence threatens U.S. ALPHARETTA, Ga., Sept. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As Florence rapidly intensifies into a major hurricane, Verizon is well prepared to serve its customers in the southeastern U.S. with the nation's largest and most reliable 4G LTE network should Hurricane Florence make landfall later this week. Final fine-tuning measures are underway and local Network teams also are prepared to travel the coast to assist areas hit hardest by the storm. The efforts are part of a year-round plan to make the network strong and reliable during storms and any other circumstances. https://www.nasdaq.com/press-release/verizon-ready-to-serve-our-customers-the-community-as-hurricane-florence-threatens-us-20180910-01045 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + The Telecom Digest depends on generous supporters like John Levine + +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <64933b1d4a512c0816ad85140d1d2314.squirrel@webmail.mishmash.com> Date: 10 Sep 2018 23:09:31 -0600 From: "Fred Atkinson" <fatkinson.remove-this@and-this-too.mishmash.com> Subject: Re: Cannot Get Answer from Verizon > Folks, > > I have an issue I need to get an answer from Verizon Wireless on. > > When I spoke to their customer service, they told me to write > their support team at the following address and they would get it to > the right person so I could get an answer: > > Verizon Wireless > Correspondence Team > Attn: Customer Service / Carrier Network Department > P. [Mod Snip] Folks, I am sitting here laughing because the letter I sent to Verizon Corporate Headquarters (the address above as I copied it exactly off of their Web site) was returned to me today as having an 'insufficient address'. If I can't rely on their address information on their Web site, how do they expect customers and business contacts to reach them? Very, very, sad for them! But I am ROTFL! What does this say about Verizon? Superior Court's ruling puts welcome brakes on the bad 'Veon Decision' | Editorial By PennLive Editorial Board Superior Court Judge Jack Panella struck a blow for legal sanity this week as he tapped the brakes on a bad 2016 state Supreme Court precedent that has effectively allowed corrupt politicians who rip off the taxpayers to get out of paying restitution for their misdeeds. As PennLive's Matt Miller's reports, Panella denied an appeal filed by 64-year-old Beverly Steffey, of Kittanning, Pa., who was convicted of stealing nearly $220,000 from three nonprofit groups in Armstrong County. https://www.pennlive.com/opinion/2018/09/pa_superior_courts_ruling_puts.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180910152547.GA16070@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2018 11:25:47 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Can States Regulate VOiP? Ask the Eighth Circuit By Dionne Cordell-Whitney ST. PAUL, Minn. (CN) - The Eighth Circuit heard arguments Tuesday on whether a national communications services company's "Spectrum Voice" brand - a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) - is subject to state regulation. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) asked the Eighth Circuit panel to reverse the ruling that Charter Advanced Services (MN) LCC is an "information services" company rather than a "telecommunications company." https://www.courthousenews.com/can-states-regulate-voip-ask-the-eighth-circuit/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + The Telecom Digest would not be possible without the generous support + + of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT + +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 12 Sep 2018
