The Aug. 1 outage caused roughly two-thirds of calls to the state's 911 dispatch centers to fail. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, 693 calls "failed to be routed" during the roughly hour-long outage, while 356 calls statewide were successfully routed through a redundant system. https://www.twincities.com/2018/08/15/centurylink-minnesota-911-outage-human-error-blamed-in-department-of-public-safety-report/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180815223040.GA24674@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2018 18:30:40 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: These are the Motorola Phones Getting Android Pie Updates This morning, Motorola provided a list of phones that they plan to update to Android Pie. The list includes several phones released this year and last year, but nothing prior to that. Motorola gave no precise timeline for when Android Pie updates may arrive outside of "this fall," adding that you should check their software support pages regularly. They also acknowledged the fact that carriers are involved and that could mean longer wait times. https://www.droid-life.com/2018/08/15/these-are-the-motorola-phones-getting-android-pie/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180815222251.GA24634@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2018 18:22:51 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Bellevue company patent infringement win gives small inventors hope In America, when people invent things, they expect their trade secrets to be protected by federal law when their government patents are approved. However, that isn't always the case. Patent infringements are life and death for inventors especially when their ideas are incorporated into products made by larger and better financed competitors who avoid paying licensing fees. Too often the originators sue, run out of money fighting off competitors, and simply fade away. https://www.rentonreporter.com/business/bellevue-company-patent-infringement-win-gives-small-inventors-hope/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180815222525.GA24652@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2018 18:25:26 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: T-Mobile quietly launches free 30-day trials of its network in three cities By Chris Welch T-Mobile says it has added more new postpaid customers than its rivals each quarter for several years running, and to keep that momentum going, the company is again trying to squash negative perceptions about its network's reliability and coverage. T-Mobile is now offering free trials of its service in Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; and Boston, Massachusetts. The company made no mention of this new program during today's Uncarrier event. https://www.theverge.com/2018/8/15/17693228/t-mobile-free-30-day-trials-network-cities -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 16 Aug 2018
