Those days span from Memorial Day to Labor Day when accidents by teenagers spike by 15 percent. Nathan Fricke with AT&T shows some new research and details of what AT&T is doing -- and what we all can do -- to address the growing problem of smartphone distracted driving. https://fox6now.com/2018/07/08/it-can-wait-atts-initiative-to-address-distracted-driving/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180708222341.GA12813@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 8 Jul 2018 18:23:41 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: High Speed Internet That Doesn't Deliver "It can be very frustrating," said Rachel Bragg. Bragg paid extra for high-speed internet but constantly hit speed bumps downloading movies or when her kids were playing games. More than 2,300 years before the common era, the people of the Indus Valley Civilization (now modern-day eastern portion of Pakistan) constructed the first public water, sewer, and road systems. Later civilizations perfected techniques, but the residents and leaders of that area had to answer a fundamental question: what is essential to modern civilization? http://www.keizertimes.com/2018/07/08/internet-connectivity-as-essential-as-water-roads/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180709084801.GA14344@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2018 04:48:01 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Changes afoot for HBO under AT&T's New Reign Premium cable network faces "tough year" as it seeks to widen its audience base By Mike Murphy Winter is coming for HBO. Only instead of an army of the undead, it's corporate bean-counters seeking more "engagement." The premium cable network known for hits such as "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld" is going to face "a tough year" ahead as it changes direction under AT&T Inc., its new corporate owner, according to a New York Times report Sunday. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/changes-afoot-for-hbo-under-atts-new-reign-2018-07-08 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180709084253.GA14321@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2018 04:42:53 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Oath CEO Armstrong considers buying out of Verizon Oath CEO Armstrong considers buying out of Verizon: Report By Ben Munson Oath CEO Tim Armstrong is reportedly considering buying out of Verizon and spinning out Oath, the combined entity of AOL and Yahoo, as a standalone company. According to The Information, talks between Armstrong and Verizon aren't currently underway, but interest in separating Verizon and Oath is still present. While Armstrong reportedly wants Oath to be a standalone company, other investors are pushing for a private equity funded buyout where Verizon stays on as a shareholder. https://www.fiercecable.com/video/oath-ceo-armstrong-considers-buying-out-verizon-report -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180709083033.GA14217@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2018 04:30:33 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Update: Issue with Verizon Wireless calls to 911 has been resolved BAKERSFIELD, Calf. The mobile-focused service, which was available across mobile platforms and carriers, failed to live up to expectations amid low viewership rates and relatively lackluster original video programming that didn't resonate with its target audience of millennial viewers. While the discontinuation of the app marks a setback for Verizon, which apparently invested about $1.2 billion in its development, the company is unlikely to retreat from the streaming video market considering its growth potential. Below we take a look at why the service failed to catch on, and what Verizon could do to fix its video strategy. https://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2018/07/02/how-verizon-could-fix-its-streaming-video-strategy-after-shutting-down-go90/#41bba7b96eba -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Mon, 09 Jul 2018
