The customers got calls from someone claiming to be from Verizon saying their accounts were compromised and the customer needed to provide some basic information and the last four digits of their social security number. https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/national/verizon-customers-targeted-by-phone-scam-in-arizona -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180701234304.GA18081@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2018 19:43:04 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: AT&T Is Making a Big Bet on Targeted Ads The telco's spending spree could continue as it beefs up its advertising technology. By Leo Sun AT&T recently agreed to acquire digital ad exchange AppNexus for what is estimated to be $1.6 billion to $2 billion. The purchase will enable the telco to integrate AppNexus' network, which automatically matches advertisers with online publishers, into its wireless services, DirecTV, and newly acquired Time Warner properties. AppNexus' top investors include advertising giant WPP, investment firm TCV, and News Corporation. The firm was valued at $1.8 billion after its last funding round in 2015, so the low end of purchase price estimates may reflect the challenges AppNexus faces from internet ad behemoths Facebook and Alphabet's Google. Research firm eMarketer expects Facebook and Google to control nearly 60% of the US digital ad market this year. https://www.fool.com/investing/2018/07/01/att-is-making-a-big-bet-on-targeted-ads.aspx -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180701232629.GA18017@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2018 19:26:29 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Unlimited data plans are a mess: here's how to pick the best one By Chris Welch Above Unlimited. Unlimited &More. Unlimited &More Premium. These are the names of new mobile data plans introduced in just the last month by Verizon and AT&T. In an era without net neutrality, we've drifted far, far away from the days when "unlimited data" was a simple concept that meant you could use your smartphone to its full capabilities without any handcuffs or confusing limitations. https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/28/17507322/best-unlimited-data-plans-verizon-att-tmobile-sprint -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Mon, 02 Jul 2018
