One of the women claims she was fired from her job at a store in Las Vegas for taking time off to deal with her infant son's emergency medical care, and another alleges she endured discriminatory harassment while pregnant and was fired from an Indiana store two days after returning from maternity leave. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2018/05/16/lawsuit-alleges-atts-absence-policies-discriminate-against-pregnant-women-workers-arent-machines/?utm_term=.9cfe225c83c3 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180517154020.GA30431@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 17 May 2018 11:40:20 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: AT&T Mobility Fired Me for Being Pregnant By Katia Hills MAY 16, 2018 | 5:30 PM TAGS Pregnancy Discrimination in the Workplace Pregnancy and Parenting Discrimination Women's Rights When I found out I was pregnant in the fall of 2014, I was so grateful to have a job with AT&T Mobility. My husband and I both worked as sales representatives at the company's store in Elkhart, Ind. Our jobs provided us a stable, comfortable life that we looked forward to sharing with our son. We made $14 an hour, plus commission, and AT&T Mobility provided generous benefits that included paid maternity leave. We both loved our jobs and looked forward to fulfilling sales careers with the company. https://www.aclu.org/blog/womens-rights/pregnancy-and-parenting-discrimination/att-mobility-fired-me-being-pregnant -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180517154442.GA30463@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 17 May 2018 11:44:42 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Union files complaints against AT&T, Nexstar for failing to disclose plans for tax savings By Naomi Jagoda The Communications Workers of America (CWA) has filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board against AT&T and Nexstar Media Group after the companies failed to provide information sought by the union about how the businesses planned to use their savings from the corporate tax cuts in the Republican tax law. "Like so many companies, AT&T promised that it would use savings from the tax bill to create good, family-supporting U.S. jobs," Lisa Bolton, vice president of CWA Telecommunications and Technologies, said in a news release Wednesday. "We're using our power at the bargaining table to make sure they keep that promise. AT&T shouldn't be laying off workers and sending the work to low-wage contractors when they are pulling in billions in profits from the tax bill." http://thehill.com/policy/finance/387952-union-files-complaints-against-att-and-nexstar-for-failing-to-disclose-plans -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180517153646.GA30413@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 17 May 2018 11:36:46 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: AT&T and Aira Announce Global Agreement To Unlock IoT for Good World's Fastest Growing Assistive Technology Platform Announces Global Expansion on Global Accessibility Awareness Day DALLAS, May 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T and Aira extend their agreement as Aira made AT&T its global data provider as it begins to take the service to Australia, Canada and the U.K. This comes at a meaningful time. Today marks the 7th Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities. What better way to do that than with technology that empowers blind and low vision individuals? "We chose GAAD to make this announcement because bringing accessibility to everyone forms the very core of Aira's mission," said Suman Kanuganti, CEO of Aira. "Working with AT&T to make our service available around the globe is the next step in using this technology to improve daily lives." https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/att-and-aira-announce-global-agreement-to-unlock-iot-for-good-300650305.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Fri, 18 May 2018
