The First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, in a news release Thursday, said the new rule aims "to deter, if not eliminate, intimidation of witnesses and courtroom disruptions." The court administrator said they are pay phones on each floor. full article with details at: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/Philly-courts-outlaw-cell-phones.html another article at: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/crime/New-cellphone-policy-begins-Monday-at-city-Criminal-Justice-Center.html [An Inquirer] editorial: Witnesses' fear of seeing photos on social media has been eased: http://www.philly.com/philly/opinion/editorials/20170404_Inquirer_Editorial__Witnesses__fear_of_seeing_photos_on_social_media_has_been_eased.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <6eedabd9-5dea-4e82-b669-addbdc0e32c1@googlegroups.com> Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2017 14:46:04 -0700 (PDT) From: HAncock4 <withheld@invalid.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Comcast plunges again into cell phone service The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Comcast Corp. will launch a wireless service in mid-2017 with a network that combines its 16 million WiFi hot spots and wholesale access to Verizon Communications Inc.'s cellular towers and spectrum. The endeavor is fraught with risk in a competitive and price-sensitive market with big incumbents Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. But the venture also has the potential to reach millions of consumers who have become attached to their smart phones to watch streamed TV and entertainment. The wireless product, Xfinity Mobile, also will offer Comcast customers a so-called "quad play," or four-service bundle of TV, phone, higher-speed internet, and wireless. full detailed article at: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/comcast-nation/Comcast-to-launch-Xfinity-Mobile-by-mid-year-making-it-part-of-the-Internet-TV-bundle.html Personal Note: I have Comcast cable TV. Rates go up every year faster than inflation, yet service quality and customer support is lousy. Comcast reports very high profits. ------------------------------ Message-ID: <37D7DB2C-C9BD-4B66-BCF1-4B89353E5223@roscom.com> Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2017 17:14:19 -0400 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Comcast unveils wireless service, Xfinity Mobile, for $45- $65 a month Comcast unveils wireless service, Xfinity Mobile, for $45-$65 a month The cable and Internet provider spelled out the details Thursday on the wireless service that CEO Brian Roberts announced in September. The newly branded Xfinity Mobile service leverages Verizon Wireless' network and launches mid-year. It will be confined to Comcast customers who already pay for home Internet service, as well as potential new Internet subscribers who reside within Comcast's footprint. That area covers markets across the nation, but is missing in places such as New York City and Los Angeles. "It's really anchored around value-add for the Comcast customer. We're not taking on the entire wireless industry," says Sam Schwartz, chief business development officer for Comcast Cable. Comcast has 29 million customer relationships, he says, and is the largest residential Internet service provider in the country. https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/baig/2017/04/06/comcast-unveils-wireless-service-xfinity-mobile-45-65-month/100113234/ ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 08 Apr 2017
