Things are bad when the local newspaper writes about a company quoting frustrated and angry seniors waving their bills. They're worse when a pit bull of a lawyer steps in. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/lake/os-lauren-ritchie-centurylink-class-action-suit-20171122-story.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <5597A86F-6A52-4883-83E4-9607C56470D5@roscom.com> Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2017 19:34:41 -0500 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Washington Has Delivered a Tangled Message on AT&T's Power Washington Has Delivered a Tangled Message on AT&T's Power Loosening rules on internet providers would let big companies charge more for their services. But a suit to block a merger signals a tougher stance against big business. In a matter of hours this week, the Trump administration twice weighed in on one of the central issues shaping business and society today - just how much market power big companies should be allowed to amass. Yet in back-to-back developments, two federal agencies arrived at starkly different conclusions, and one company, AT&T, found itself on opposite sides of the debate. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/21/business/net-neutrality-antitrust-.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <CA408DCB-3871-4457-9DCF-D4876A0DF2DC@roscom.com> Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2017 18:29:46 -0500 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Understanding Chairman Pai's Proposal to Dismantle Net Neutrality FACT SHEET Understanding Chairman Pai's Proposal to Dismantle Net Neutrality What Is Net Neutrality? Net neutrality is the concept that consumers and businesses should be able to reach the online applications and services of their choosing without interference from their broadband provider. In other words, that all data and all legal traffic that travels over the Internet should be treated equally. This has been a bipartisan bedrock principle for more than a decade. https://apps.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-347935A1.pdf ------------------------------ Message-ID: <AE910632-CF62-464F-A03B-CE0032EF6D69@roscom.com> Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2017 02:33:24 -0500 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: PC vendors scramble as Intel announces vulnerability in firmware Intel has issued a security alert that management firmware on a number of recent PC, server, and Internet-of-Things processor platforms are vulnerable to remote attack. Using the vulnerabilities, the most severe of which was uncovered by Mark Ermolov and Maxim Goryachy of Positive Technologies Research, remote attackers could launch commands on a host of Intel-based computers, including laptops and desktops shipped with Intel Core processors since 2015. They could gain access to privileged system information, and millions of computers could essentially be taken over as a result of the bug. Most of the vulnerabilities require physical access to the targeted device, but one allows remote attacks with administrative access. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/11/intel-warns-of-widespread-vulnerability-in-pc-server-device-firmware/ ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 25 Nov 2017
